2020 Season - Q & A
Why is Old Creamery Theatre suspending the 2020 Season? Why not just wait and see what happens?
As a theatre, we rely on large-group attendance to exist. With the substantial uncertainties still surrounding COVID-19, there is no clear and fiscally responsible path to present our remaining season. It takes a great deal of time and resources to create live theatre productions, and revenue is only secure when performances are realized. To continue to plan for shows that might once again be postponed or cancelled is just too risky. Additionally, as a professional theatre company, we employ artists from around the country that live in shared housing while in production. This, in addition to the current, restrictive guidelines from Actors Equity Union further compromises our ability to safely produce our current season.
Exactly what shows and performances are cancelled?
All Main Stage, Theatre for Young Audience and Road Show performances, including:
- Steel Magnolias (Jun 3 – 14)
- Curious George: The Golden Meatball (Jul 14 – 25)
- Ole and Lena in Café Chaos (Jul 18)
- Nana Does Vegas (Jul 30 – Aug 23)
- Legally Blonde (Sept 3 – 20)
- Brian Hoffman's Remembering Red (Sept 11)
- The Wichita Lineman (Sept 18)
- Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (rescheduled for Sept 25 – Oct 4)
- The Church Basement Ladies in You Smell Barn (Oct 8 – Nov 8)
- Click, Clack, Boo! A Tricky Treat (Oct 17 – 31)
- Miracle on 34th Street – The Musical (Nov 19 – Dec 20)
- Junie B. Jones: The Musical (Nov 28 – Dec 19)
Will we see these shows next year?
We hope to bring many of these titles back in the years to come but, next year, we will present a new and exciting 50th Anniversary Season lineup that we know our audiences will love. The 2021 Season will be announced in August.
What should people do about their tickets and season subscriptions?
Ticket holders and season subscribers will receive an email from our staff with next steps. If you do not have an email address on file, a member of our staff will call you personally. If you are able, please consider donating your 2020 tickets and subscriptions back to Old Creamery Theatre. Your generosity will provide critical relief during these extraordinary times and your donation is fully tax-deductible. Of course, we understand these times are hard for everyone, so we are happy to discuss other options.
What about the recently added Dinner Theatre shows?
We have not yet cancelled these shows as they do not require the same upfront costs as our other productions and the offsite venues give us more flexibility. However, we will continue to respond to changing guidelines and restrictions and update ticketholders accordingly.
What about Special Events?
Shaken Not Stirred (previously postponed to Jul 19) has been cancelled. We are currently exploring ways to host the annual Ice Cream Social(ly-distanced) on August 8th.
Will Old Creamery Theatre be okay?
The Old Creamery Theatre Board of Directors has worked hard over the past few years to pay down debt, reduce costs and advance the financial standing of the theatre. This has helped position the theatre to weather this incredibly difficult storm, but we will need your help. 80% of our budget comes from ticket sales – so the impact on our operations has been crippling. A COVID-19 Relief Fund has been established to provide critical support during this crisis. Please visit www.oldcreamery.com/donate to learn more.
What if restrictions are lifted? Will there be any performances?
We want nothing more than to bring you the theatre magic you deserve and love, but we want to make sure we are doing it in a way that puts the health and safety of our patrons and artists first. If things evolve that makes it safe and practical for us to put on a show, we will be READY!!
I still have questions. Who can I talk to?
You can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, and we will direct your question to the appropriate person. Please understand that we have limited staff that is working remotely, but we promise to do our best to get back to you as quickly as possible. We are truly grateful for your patience and understanding during this difficult time.
