"At once honest, truthful, sad, optimistic and very, very funny, I found “Making God Laugh” worthwhile and moving theatre. I highly recommend it. Sometimes a play comes along that defies those easy generalizations and descriptions that reviewers use to describe a show. “Making God Laugh” is one of those plays. It’s not as “heavy” as it sounds, nor as simple as I make it seem, rather it’s a complex and moving portrayal of one family that left me hopeful about all families." —Emilie Hoppe with the Amana Bulletin
"Each member of the production staff makes a strong contribution to the success of the production. The set design of Marianna Coffey, Costumes by April Bonasera, and Light and Sound Design by Jim Vogt and Bri Atwood make this play expand beyond the limit of a box set and help to make the play a memory that will linger with the audience and promote serious contemplation of our own homes and families." —Gerry Roe with the Iowa Theatre Blog. Making God Laugh
April 20 – May 14, 2017
By Sean Grennan
This brand new comedy follows one typical American family over the course of thirty years’ worth of holidays. Starting in 1980, Ruthie and Bill’s grown children — a priest, an aspiring actress, and a former football star — all return home, where we learn of their plans and dreams as they embark on their adult lives. As time passes, the family discovers that, despite what we may have in mind, we often arrive at unexpected destinations. Rated PG.
